Doctor Mascall, one of the greatest 20th century theologians wrote the following -
"The first century knew as well as the twentieth that dead bodies do not naturally come to life again, and no amount of twentieth-century knowledge about natural processes can tell us what may happen by supernatural means. (p. 79-80)."
People of the first century were intelligent enough and more importantly wise enough to understand that the resurrection was a miracle and knew it as such.

I guess that this is why it is also written that Jesus performed the miracles on the blind man and the paraplegic man. For to be healed of either these are obvious miracles even in the 21st century. It would also suggest that 1st century people also were intelligent enough and wise enough to realise that as well.
